EAST WEST T'AI CHI & QIGONG

QIGONG (WILD GOOSE SYSTEM) **

Qigong is a gentle exercise system that has a profound effect on your health and sense of wellbeing.  The gentle movements coordinate with your breathing, and practising regularly helps to boost your immune system, improve your flebxibility, and resolve any health problems or injuries you have acquired over your lifetime.

There are many different styles of Qigong, but one of the top ten in China is Wild Goose Qigong.  This has a history going back 1,800 years, and over that time 72 different forms were created, each with a different health benefit.  Some of the forms you will learn include Wild Goose Qigong - 1st & 2nd 64 movements - Jade Pillar Gong, Swimming Dragon Gong, Kunlun Twining Hands Bagua and Healthy Slapping Gong.

This skill comes from Grandmaster Yang Meijun.

T'AI CHI - CHEN STYLE (Chen Style Taijiqun) **

This is the original T'ai Chi Style, from which all the other styles developed, so if you have done some T'ai Chi before and wish to get back to the root of this fascinating art, then this is the one for you.  Chen Style contains a lot of spiralling energy (Chan Si Jin), and we will help you start moving from your waist and dantien by teaching you some Silk Reeling exercises.  Later on, you will learn some weapons forms such as broadsword and straight sword.  Do not worry if you have not done any T'ai Chi before as this class is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some previous T'ai Chi Experience.

This skill comes from Grandmaster Chen Xiowang..

T'AI CHI - YANG STYLE (Yang Style Taijiquan)

This is the more gentle side of T'ai Chi.  The slow, graceful movements of this style are beautiful to watch as well as perform, and help to calm the mind as it is a form of moving meditation.

NORTHERN SHAOLIN CHUN YUEN QUAN **

For the more adventurous, this originates from the Shaolin Temple, and is excellent for improving your posture, your felxibility, and makes the body very light.  These forms can be performed gently, or for those who are fitter they can be done in a very dynamic way.  One of the forms you will learn is Great Sadness Gong, which is especially good for anyone with lung problems.  Later on you will get a chance to learn one of the weapons forms - Damo Staff - which uses a long pole.  Everyone loves this form, and you will start by learning some stick handling exercises.

This skill comes from Grandmaster Wu Chun Yuen.

GENTLE EXERCISE FOR THE OVER 50S AND OVER 70S

These classes attract not only the over 50s, but also the over 60s, 70s and 80s since they are suitable for a wide range of people, both male and female.  Many who are not fit or mobile enough to take part in a conventional exercise routine, or who cannot walk very far, benefit from these gentle exercises.  But even the fitter and more active over 50s find the classes both valuable and enjoyable.  For the Over 70s it is very gentle indeed, but that doesn't mean you cannot have a really good stretch!
